Safe Eyes Review

  Summary

SafeEyes is a great solution for internet filtering and program blocking, but since your settings are stored on a remote server, the interface may be slow when refreshing and switching screens. The monitoring capabilities are also lacking.

Website Filtering/Blocking

SafeEyes has about 30 filter categories. Each category has 3 options - block, log, and alert. Block will simply block the site, log will store the URL in the log, and alert will email you with a custom alert. You can set any combination of these flags for each category. Other Filtering/Blocking: SafeEyes allows you to block access to popular chat programs, popular Peer to Peer (file sharing) programs, FTP, Newsgroups, popular Media players, and POP 3 Email (not web based mail such as hotmail). You can also add custom programs to block. They also have a time management feature in which you can limit internet access based on various times of the day.

Monitoring

SafeEyes monitors website URLs. URL history is logged and stored by date. You can then view the activity explorer which shows you attempted website accesses as well as whether or not they were blocked. SafeEyes can now also monitor private information sent across social networking sites such as MySpace. There doesn't appear to be a way to monitor other activity such as chat, email, keystrokes, screenshots, etc.

Management

SafeEyes allows you create multiple user profiles and configure filter settings and categories for each user, however, the usernames have to be unique to their system - you cannot use a name that has been chosen by somebody else. Viewing the URL log is easy - you simply right click the SafeEyes icon in the task bar and select usage logging - view usage logs.

Support
